Bereiter and Scardamalia (1998) argue that, for students to be able to work with knowledge they need to be able to: * represent and share their knowledge; * identify that knowledge can occur in different contexts and can be viewed from different perspectives; * view themselves as constructors of knowledge; * understand their knowledge as being subject to revision and able to be improved; and * be aware that knowledge objects can be manipulated and judged.
In terms of practical applications, most knowledge systems have at their core a repository of artifacts along with a means of submitting, vetting, approving, tagging, and reviewing knowledge objects.
By selecting various parts or elements of the Web-enabled IFC, the user can drill down to a particular activity block that is linked to a template or knowledge object containing pertinent acquisition information about that activity.
