Formed in 1996 and operational in 1997, the German Kommando Spezial Krafte, or KSK, provides the German defense architecture with a force that can perform reconnaissance, counterterrorism and direct action. Because the only two SOG prisoners of war who survived and returned were captured within South Vietnam, there is a suspicion that the North Vietnamese had initiated a local program equivalent to Hitler's infamous Kommando Befehl, which directed the execution of any Allied special operators, whether uniformed or not, captured in German rear areas. |
