Even if you're sooo over the boy-bang scene, this is a tight nostalgic package highlighting the hottest hits from recent history's hotties: *NSync with "Tearin' Up My Heart," "Summer Girls" by LFO, Hanson's "MMMBop," "End of the Road" by Boyz II Men--18 tunes in all. The only sound is Gillick's music, a cross between LFO, Autechre, and Jean-Michel Jarre that bounces along with the images, turning the film into a glittering music video devoid of psychological depth. In fact, the three performers outshone the night's lineup of mostly overrated corporate-pop acts, the biggest culprit being the Boston-based boy band LFO, whose brand of pop is better-suited for soft-drink commercials and not the stage. |
