And suicide ranked third among the leading causes of death for people between the ages of 20 and 24, with 12. The three leading causes of death were drug overdose (103 deaths, a quarter of all the deaths), cardiovascular disease (56 deaths, 10 of them from a heart attack), and homicide (54 deaths). According to the National Center for Health Statistics, the leading causes of death in infants are congenital abnormalities, preterm or low birth weight, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), problems related to complications of pregnancy, and respiratory distress syndrome. |
