With its main functions, including three-dimensional (3D) noise reduction and 3D luminance/chrominance (Y/C) separation, integrated onto a single chip in miniaturized form, the uPD64012 chip enables design engineers to reduce a design's footprint by approximately 50 percent, system component costs by approximately 30 percent and the necessary large-scale integration time, thereby speeding time to market and lowering system costs.
Integrated in the single system LSI chip are a three-dimensional (3D) luminance/chrominance (Y/C) separator, digital video (D/V) format decoder and IEEE 1394 A/V link controller, as well as an A/V compression/decompression codec, a graphics controller, a video display controller and a high-performance CPU, the functions conventionally configured with multiple LSI chips.
Chrominance decoding features a high-performance quadrature demodulator, a comb filter to minimize crosstalk between the chrominance information in PAL signals or luminance/chrominance crosstalk in NTSC signals, (on-chip delay line) and automatic matching of color difference signal amplitudes to maintain the required CCIR 601 output levels.
