Many genes whose expression is regulated by E2F family transcription factors, including CDK2, CCNE1, CDC6, CDC2, MCM2
, were significantly down-regulated at 24 hr post-IR.
Although some of these genes, such as MCM2
(25), NDRG1 (26), CBR1 (27), and EIF4A (28), have been identified as transcriptional markers of cancer, others, such as CALML5, have not been identified as having roles in SCCC or in other cancers.
The new technique identifies signs of cancer in faeces by detecting the presence of MCM2
, a molecule which is found in large amounts in cancerous and precancerous bowel cells but not in healthy ones.
