Middle Eastern dancing is "a social dance form that's meant to be shared," Havicus said, and people of all ages - through the years, MEDGE members have ranged in age from 10 to 75, for example - are welcome to attend and participate.
For the past five years, MEDGE has held its monthly performance get-togethers - the group meets the third Wednesday of each month except October, when it holds an all-day dance festival on the third Saturday - at Cozmic Pizza in downtown Eugene.
MEDGE, which now has 111 members, formed in 1991 when a group of Middle East dance students and their instructor decided they wanted to meet beyond the classroom setting.
Like most of her MEDGE counterparts, "This is a really big part of my life," she said.
Gormezano can be found performing at the Oregon Country Fair in Veneta every July, at the Saturday Market in Eugene and at local establishments such as Cafe Paradiso and Cozmic Pizza, where MEDGE also performs.
