October's regular MGK meeting came just after the surrender of a group of outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) to Turkish authorities on Monday, which was evaluated by many as a move to strengthen the hand of the government in its recently launched democratization package to end the country's decades-old Kurdish issue.
The MGK prevails as a decision-making body that includes the members of the Cabinet along with the military chiefs, and whose decisions overrule in most cases those of the elected governments.
A cryptic statement issued after the MGK meeting said members "expressed indignation with statements and publications aimed at tarnishing some state institutions" and warned that "such actions will not bring any good to the country.
