This study utilized the multifactor leadership questionnaire MLQ 5X (short form) to gain information about leadership and leadership styles and to explore relationships among these styles and the outcomes of extra effort, satisfaction with the leader, and perception of leader effectiveness.
Effectiveness correlates of transformational and transactional leadership: A meta-analytic review of the MLQ literature.
Transformational and transactional leadership have been found to be complementary and independent according to the developers of the instrument and the MLQ measures the entire range of leadership behaviors (Alimo-Metcalfe & Alban-Metcalfe, 2001).
