MPIGO and MJP were allied with the MPCI, and the three groups subsequently called themselves the "New Forces.
Charles Taylor contributed greatly to the creation, arming and military training of the members of the two rebel groups from the southwest, the MJP (Mouvement pour la justice et la paix) and the MPIGO (Mouvement patriotique ivoirien du Grand Ouest), which emerged after the military coup on 19 September 2002 that tried to overthrow Gbagbo.
