A CA-MRSA strain was defined as a clinical MRSA isolate recovered from a pediatric patient (<1-18 years of age) who had no established risk factors for MRSA infection (no residence in long-term care facility, no hospitalization except for routine birth, and no permanent indwelling medical devices).
