In 2005, the Mayo Clinic announced that it was working on a method which uses magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (MRSI) to observe and identify specific patterns of metabolic activity that are common to afflicted patients.
At a recent meeting of the Radiological Society of North America, scientists at Mayo Clinic reported on the breakthrough that utilizes magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (MRSI) to identify unique patterns of metabolic activity in the brains of bipolar patients.
Preliminary data suggest that this antidepressant effect occurs because echoplanar magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (EP-MRI) creates electronic fields that are associated with mood elevation in depressed bipolar patients (Am.
