More recently, in 1997, the Marine Detachment was designated the fire support doctrinal proponent for the Marine Corps. In 2003, the Corps assigned an experimental 86-man unit known as Marine Detachment One to work with SEALs at the Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado, Calif. These books represent the first scholarly attempt to examine the role of the British Army in Australian colonial society during the 1860s, and are the first in a planned ongoing series by these authors, the next being a study of the Royal Marine detachment at Somerset, Cope York, Queensland, 1864-67. |
