MARINE PROTECTED AREAS The following is a letter I wrote regarding the southern California Marine Life Protection Act Initiative.
Because the Marine Life Protection Act (MLPA) encourages collaboration among different interest groups with a stake in ocean health, Murray has made it her job to get to know the dwindling number of fishermen (and they are mostly men) who make their living from the sea.
1) While the Marine Life Protection Act requires "[s]pecific identified objectives, and management and enforcement measures, for all MPAs in the system", no clear guidance is provided as to what constitutes sufficient planning to assure the proper management of the MPAs.
