In 2002, a team of physicists from NIST completed characterization of, and resolved calibration issues concerning, the Marine Optical Buoy (MOBY).
A Marine Optical Buoy (MOBY) off the coast of Lanai in the Hawaiian Islands is the centerpiece of the primary ocean measurement site for calibrating satellite-born ocean color sensors.
The Marine Optical Buoy (MOBY) project is a part NASA's Earth Observing System Program, and supports the validation of satellite ocean color imagery data that are used for understanding the global carbon cycle.
