Builder confidence in the market for newly built single-family homes barely budged in July, edging down two points from an upwardly revised reading in June to a level that matches the strong index average for the year as a whole, according to the latest National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI), released today. Obligations that could be settled with shares, "the monetary value of which is fixed, tied solely or predominantly to a variable such as a market index, or varies inversely wit the value of the issuers' shares. Looking at insurers--which have been buffeted by terrorist attacks, stock-market woes and increasing environmental-hazard claims--some of the top insurance brokers have expressed fear that the industry's solvency might be in trouble, according to the 2002 Commercial Insurance Market Index survey completed by the Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers. |
