My secondary school mathematics students have often reported to me that quadratic relations are one of the most conceptually challenging aspects of the high school curriculum. I discovered on several occasions in both the science and mathematics student questionnaires of the TIMSS-R, only one source variable/item was used to measure important attributional variables. They also found, however, that mathematics student teachers changed their thinking in the reverse direction. |
