4 Global Hawk aerial reconnaissance jet; the medium altitude endurance Hunter II; its shorter-range, lower-altitude RQ-5 Hunter tactical UAV; and the RQ-8 Fire Scout vertical takeoff and landing tactical UAV. The Tactical Control System will provide the military services with a single unmanned aerial vehicle mission planning, command and control, data processing and dissemination system for operation of the medium altitude endurance and tactical family of unmanned aerial vehicles. Since the mid-90s the US Navy has had a Medium Altitude Endurance (MAE) UAV requirement, relating to operation from aircraft carriers and LHA/LHD amphibious assault ships. |
