People with borderline-high cholesterol (200 mg/dL to 239 mg/dL) had a 25% greater risk.
Compared to people with cholesterol levels below 200 milligrams per deciliter of blood (mg/dL) in midlife, the risk of Alzheimer's disease three decades later was 57 percent higher in people with high midlife cholesterol levels of 240 mg/dL and above.
The American Heart Association offers this gauge: Total Cholesterol * Less than 200 mg/dl--Desirable * 200-239 mg/dl--Borderline High Risk * 240 mg/dl and over--High Risk HDL * This is good cholesterol.
