Percy Heath was a founding member of the Modern Jazz Quartet (with John Lewis, who grew up in Albuquerque, on piano) from 1952 to 1974.
A moving version of "Django," pianist John Lewis' musical representation of Gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhart and a staple in the repertoire of Lewis' Modern Jazz Quartet, was notable for a grooving Marsalis piano solo done in Lewis' spare, less-is-more style.
