This difference became more apparent when the harmonisation of food regulations between our two countries was proposed in 1996 and later when food products produced in each country were recognised for importation purposes under the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Arrangement in 1997. As a result, they must be able to show the laboratory/measurement reports which conform to the technical standard, so the product reports/certificates produced by the accredited laboratories will be accepted to the importing country quickly and freely through a formal mutual recognition arrangement. Kelsey cites New Zealand's cultural safety requirement in nursing education as an obvious target and points out this has already been circumvented through the mutual recognition arrangements under Closer Economic Relations with Australia. |
