This scenario repeats itself all too often; in fact, the NHSDA reveals that nearly 12 percent of past year users of prescription painkillers can be classified as dependent. Similar to our nonresponse survey, the NHSDA interviewers were more successful in converting noncontact cases than refusal cases, with response rates of 45 percent and 25 percent respectively. Most notable was the 121% relative increase in reported use of cocaine in the past 12 months among participants who were given the NHSDA SAQ, compared to the telephone interview respondents. |
