The NIRP seeks to increase the share of manufacturing to the GDP from the current 4%, to more than 10% over a five-year period.
Jonathan said the NIRP will help to fast track economic growth by reducing the current haemorrhaging of the nation's reserves caused by unbridled importation.
The NIRP will, he promised, address perennial constraints such as poor infrastructure, epileptic power supply and the high cost of borrowing that have plagued manufacturing in the country, and it will promote 'made in Nigeria goods' both domestically and abroad.
Jonathan added: "The integrated approach being pursued under NIRP and NEDEP allows for better coordination, synergy, effectiveness and more efficient utilisation of resources, and will positively transform the Nigerian economy.
The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga, said the NIRP would, in the long run, turn Nigeria into a net exporter of 15 major products.
President Goodluck Jonathan, who flagged off the programmes, said, "The NIRP
, which is the most ambitious industrialisation programme ever pursued by our nation, will accelerate growth in those industries where Nigeria has comparative and competitive advantages such as the processing of food and agricultural products, metals and solid minerals processing, oil- and gas-related industries, and construction, light manufacturing and services.
As a result, DAU was approached by NIRPS to conduct experimental development and to review such acts/agreements--specifically for the U.
Initial study guidance from NIRPS was to explore a cross-governmental solution given the diversity of governmental agencies and activities across the propulsion sector.
