During his tenure at the National Bureau of Standards and then the National Institute of Standards and Technology, McKenna built an experimental program that furthered the fundamental understanding of the physics and mechanics of amorphous polymers, including rubber, gels and glasses. The first 30 years of his government career were spent working for the National Bureau of Standards, now known as the National Institute of Standards and Technology. National Bureau of Standards (later the National Institute of Standards and Technology, NIST), he published a number of scientific papers on the aging of paper. |
