In an effort to attract more nursing graduates to the Coast, O'Malley last month spoke to Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology nursing students on the challenges and rewards of rural practice.
She trained at Nelson Hospital and worked as a nurse for 15 years before completing a Masters degree and moving into nursing education at the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology, where she rose through the management ranks to dean of the health and social sciences faculty.
