Darwinism is a "materialistic theory" to the same extent as are heliocentrism, Newtonian mechanics, or Einsteinian relativity. Newtonian mechanics, the basis of Enlightenment advances, no longer functioned in the expanding universes of astrophysics and subatomic particles. Which is to say that, well into this century, a plethora of top scientists still believed in Newtonian mechanics as the best model for activity in the universe and were much more interested in adapting the old model to the new evidence than in accepting a radically new model. |
