We analyzed data on three such genetic polymorphisms: [delta-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase (ALAD), endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), and the vitamin D receptor (VDR). Nitric oxide (NO), a gas that was once believed to present only in the atmosphere, is produced in human tissues by the enzyme nitric oxide synthase (NOS), with L-arginine as the substrate. This reduced concentrations of two inflammatory agents--inducible nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase-2, or COX-2. |
