Anyone who has ever been involved in the struggle to help developing nations has to love the award of a Nobel Peace Prize to Muhammad Yunus for his program of tiny loans to help poor people start businesses. Biographer John Allen's new book about the Nobel Peace Prize winner and retired archbishop, Rabble-rouser for Peace (Free Press/Simon and Schuster), reveals that in 1998 Tutu sent a letter to the head of the worldwide Anglican Communion saying he was "ashamed to be Anglican" after the church rejected the ordination of openly gay clergy. We congratulate Muhammed Yunnus and the Gameen Bank of Bangladesh on receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for 2006. |
