Research about the recently discovered Optineurin gene and its mutations, which has been associated with POAG and in particular normal tension glaucoma (NTG), will also be presented.
Normal tension glaucoma accounts for approximately 25 percent to 50 percent of all primary open angle glaucoma in the Unites States, and it is difficult to detect because patients do not have elevated intraocular pressure, which is often the first symptom monitored for indication of primary open angle glaucoma.
