This volume collects papers from an October 2007 conference, held at Stanford University's Hoover Institution in collaboration with former US Senator Sam Nunn's Nuclear Threat Initiative, that was convened to consider the means by which to realize the vision of a world free of nuclear weapons symbolized for the participants by the 1986 Reykjavik summit between US President Ronald Reagan and Soviet Premier Mikhail Gorbachev.
The nongovernmental organization Nuclear Threat Initiative (
Turner and Nunn co-founded the Nuclear Threat Initiative, a Washington-based nonprofit dedicated to reducing the threat of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons.
