The research was conducted by the Nutrition Screening Initiative (NSI), a multidisciplinary, multiorganizational partnership led by the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Dietetic Association. Nutrition Care Alerts, guides developed by nutrition and long term care experts and distributed through the Nutrition Screening Initiative, acknowledge the role of the CNA in preventing unintended weight loss, dehydration, pressure ulcers, and feeding-tube complications. According to the Nutrition Screening Initiative Survey, half of hospitalized elderly and 40% of long term care residents may be malnourished and therefore at risk for nutrition-related problems. |
