Over the years, Robinson made many one-factor-at-a-time (OFAT) changes to the process, but the problem continued to reoccur.
This is in direct contrast to the typical one-factor-at-a-time approach or OFAT which limits the understanding and wastes data.
A factorial design makes it possible not only to determine the main effect of each factor, but also to calculate the interaction effects of the factors--a feature that is impossible with the one-factor-at-a-time design.
