The high-efficiency, energy-saving chillers address environmental concerns by adopting HFC-134a chlorine-free zero ozone depletion potential (ODP) refrigerant. These lifetimes, in turn, can be incorporated into atmospheric models to estimate the ozone depletion potentials of these compounds if it is decided to consider them further as halon replacements. The TURI Laboratory conducts a preliminary screening to determine a chemical's potential risk based on global warming potential, ozone depletion potential, volatile organic content, flammability/reactivity and acute toxicity. |
