Of 56 allogenic PBSCT patients seen at our institution, 11 (6 inpatients and 5 outpatients) were positive for hPIV 3 during a 6-week period, compared with two positive cases recorded throughout the rest of the year.
Transplant related mortality was 5% among 37 PBSCT recipients (median follow-up 17 months) compared with 31% in the 54 BMT recipients (median follow-up 29 months), according to researchers from University Hospital of Essen, Germany.
Case Report: A 26-year-old, uncircumcised male with history of acute myeloblastic leukemia day +52 after a mycloablative PBSCT was admitted with fever and positive blood cultures for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis.
