Celine Piri found herself jobless after taking a severance buyout from AT&T and felt the frustration of job seekers everywhere. For example, Baca's voice resonates with clear authority in his ongoing conversation with Chicano poets Luis Rodriguez and Ricardo Sanchez, as well as with Nuyorican poets such as Piri Thomas and Miguel Pinero, each one a single and distinctive voice and at the same time a part of a chorus expressing similar principles, forms, and aims in the shaping of their respective poetics. In this study I explore some valuable contributions of the Latino Protestant religious perspective by analyzing a selection of examples from the literary work of the Afro-Puerto Rican author Piri Thomas. |
