Daines was selected for the two-year PITAC appointment for his expertise in high performance computing (HPC) and for his experience in the networking industry. However, PITAC concludes that both sectors have "compromised' the return on those investments by their continuing shift toward applied research--efforts that focus on explicit, near-term goals. In addition, he is the director of HiPerSoft, a Center for High Performance Software Research headquartered at Rice University, and co-chair of PITAC, the President's Information Technology Advisory Committee. |
