In such systems, text transcribed from clinicians' dictations is moved electronically from the word processing system into a patient care information system that clinicians can use to retrieve clinical results from workstations on the nursing units of hospitals and in the offices of group practices. Hence, the first planned change in the clinical information environment was an integrated patient care information system designed for direct clinician order entry as well as results reporting. Eagle said that the patient care information system will provide timely access to information critical for clinical decision making, help to reduce the potential for medical errors, and speed up the flow of information that can be critical to saving lives. |
