Miller of the University of California, San Diego and two colleagues have now offered evidence that peptide nucleic acid (PNA), a more stable alternative to RNA, may have existed during the world's primordial days. The report compares RNAi with other antisense approaches using oligonucleotides, aptamers, ribozymes, peptide nucleic acid and locked nucleic acid. The unique character of peptide nucleic acid (PNA) allows these probes to hybridize to target nucleic acid molecules more rapidly and with higher affinity and specificity compared with DNA probes. |
