This systematic review (meta-analysis) examines the effect of walking exercises in patients with intermittent claudication due to peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD) in the lower extremities. A control unit generates timed pressure pulses to the cuffs that greatly increase arterial blood flow in patients with obstructed leg arteries; a condition called peripheral arterial occlusive disease. Rutherford has recently co-chaired the Transatlantic Consensus on Peripheral Arterial Occlusive Disease (TASC) and currently is Emeritus Professor of Surgery at the University of Colorado. |
