The species Linnen and Hoekstra studied, Peromyscus maniculatus, is the most widespread mammal in North America.
Serologic and genetic identification of Peromyscus maniculatus as the primary rodent reservoir for a new hantavirus in the southwestern United States.
By order of decreasing abundance, they were Cryptotis parva (54 individuals), Microtus ochrogaster (38), Peromyscus maniculatus bairdii 01), Synaptomys cooperi (7), Microtus pennsylvanicus (6), and Peromyscus leucopus (5).
