examines Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA)
The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) was the first to become law on May 1, 2001.
In 1999, the Canadian federal government had introduced Bill C-54, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (although it was later reintroduced as Bill C-6, at the time of the audit it was Bill C-54 and is referred to as such throughout this case study), which proposed applying privacy standards for personal information to segments of the private sector.
