In the case of personal construct theory, a key proponent was Kelly (1955), who believed people make sense of their world on an individual basis, that is, personally construct reality. Applying personal construct theory to education, Phillida Salmon (1995) has described teaching and learning as an encounter between the personal constructs of the instructor and pupil. The teacher's perceptions of children's 'abilities' were her own constructs, which were elicited using Personal Construct Theory techniques (Bannister -- Fransella 1986). |
