John Soma, executive director of the Privacy Foundation, a Denver-based research and privacy-fights advocacy group, said that the obligation to obtain meaningful consent--or making sure participants fully understand that there are some circumstances in which their GPS-tracked travel during the study could be subpoenaed, like in court proceedings--falls squarely on Nielsen's shoulders. Wanser is also the founder of the Trusted Email Consortium for Financial Services (TECFS), an alliance of leading global financial institutions and ISPs, and is a former advisor to the Privacy Foundation and former member of the Direct Marketing Association's (DMA) advisory board. APWG was one of some 34 signatory companies and industry groups to the plan which was delivered today to the Federal Trade Commission by Microsoft Corporation and TRUSTe, the electronic consumer privacy foundation, in conjunction with the FTC's 2-day email authentication summit in Washington DC on Nov 9-10. |
