Spending a year studying the profession of arms enlightened me in the art and science of war, and the follow-on year as a division planner helped me understand the MDMP and the complexities of war plans, exercises and operational planning. The real strength of this book however is the acknowledgment of the dedication that the Citizen Soldier has brought, and still brings, to his or her part time profession of arms, and the overall contribution made by those part-time Officers and Soldiers to the defence of Australia. Yours is the profession of arms, the will to win, the sure knowledge that in war there is no substitute for victory, that if you lose, the nation will be destroyed, that the very obsession of your public service must be duty, honor, country. |
