And the star burst pattern represents the position of our Sun relative to 14 other "easily-detectable" pulsating stars in our Milky Way. At least 3 billion years old, TX Camelo-pardalis is classified as a Mira variable, an old, pulsating star that periodically brightens and dims. Using one type of distance indicator, youthful pulsating stars known as Cepheid variables, the team calibrated the true brightness of another indicator in the same galaxies, exploded stars known as type 1a supernovas. |
