The shipwreck believed to be the notorious pirate's flagship Queen Anne's Revenge, which sank off the North Carolina coast near Beaufort, has emerged from the sandy bottom, and is now exposed to currents and wave action. FACT: When it sank, the Queen Anne's Revenge was hauling nearly 9 kilograms (20 lbs) of gold dust--tiny flakes that can be melted into jewelry or gold bars. The wreck believed to be the Queen Anne's Revenge was found after a hunt begun in 1986 by Philip Masters, who now heads Intersal, a company in Boca Raton, Fla. |
