In this case, the use of recombinant activated factor VIIa controlled the massive gastrointestinal bleeding secondary to Crohn disease and without clinically significant adverse effect. A recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine demonstrated that administration of recombinant activated factor VII in patients with acute intracerebral hemorrhage reduced the growth of the hematoma, and improved functional outcomes.
