Life insurance securitizations have been on the rise both in the United States and globally, fueled by the availability of ever-increasing amounts of capital chasing deals and returns, the increased regulatory capital requirements for life insurers, and diminished and more costly reinsurance capacity. Notwithstanding these small changes, regulatory capital ratios overall remained strong for the industry. Hove expressed concern over the number of new accounting rules that change the way income and assets are recognized and measured for financial reporting purposes and their effect when they automatically float into regulatory capital calculations without modification. |
