Old, overused slings and belts that should have been removed from service are commonly in use throughout America's nursing homes and hospitals, subjecting residents and staff to risk of falls and injury. British Airways said yesterday that one of the three 767s removed from service following the discovery of traces of a radioactive substance during the UK government's investigation of the death of former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko has been cleared to resume flying. An operation conducted last week at Los Angeles International Airport resulted in nine commercial ground transportation vehicles removed from service and 149 citations issued to drivers for mechanical and administrative violations. |
