According to the findings in this poster, oral dosing of SRT501, Sirtris' proprietary formulation of resveratrol, reduced the loss of retinal ganglion cells and preserved axonal function in a pre-clinical model of optic neuritis.
Many retinal disorders, such as diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration (AMD), are accompanied by damage to the retinal ganglion cells, a hallmark of many ophthalmic diseases, disrupting the transmission of signals from the optic nerve to the brain, resulting in loss of sight.
